Good evening,
Thank you
very much to you, the Rotary team and our generous friends in Norway, for the
great help you provided to the homeless people after the tragedy of the
earthquake in February 2023. Your grant is well received and used in accordance
with your wishes.
The intensity
of the earthquake was strong in the regions of northwestern Syria, where we
are, and 189 towns and cities were affected, Where more than 10,280 families
were directly affected and a huge number of monsters left their homes for fear
of aftershocks after the big earthquake. The number of deaths inside Syria
reached 2,150 people, and the deaths among the Syrians in southern Turkey are
“refugees” more than 7,000 people. The number of wounded and wounded has
reached more than 5,615 people only inside Syria, in northwestern Syria, The
number of school children killed 626 and 923 injured, the number of educational
cadres 20, and 46 the number of wounded
The number of
partially demolished buildings 5890 and the number of completely demolished
buildings 819. Of these, 181 schools are partially
destroyed and 6 are completely destroyed (but fortunately all 23 Rotary schools
are intact )
170
schools and mosques houses many of the families of those affected by the
earthquake as temporary shelters
With your kind
financial assistance, 30 tents up to now were equipped to accommodate 6 people,
equipped with 6 sponges, blankets, a solid carpet on the floor and a heater
with 300 kg of necessary heating materials, lamps along with foodstuffs and kitchen
materials.
This until permanent
housing is secured in suitable camps. In
one of the camps one of our local helping organization will use the grant from
Rotary to build as many familytents as possible and some infrastructure
especially for the children to provide them with some psychological support
after the disaster.
These 30
Rotary tents were spread in public squares, gardens, mosques, and schools, and
some of them were on the outskirts of the roads, away from buildings, for fear
of collapsing in one of the aftershocks.
Charitable organizations and bodies are working to provide assistance to the affected families, which number in large numbers. We cooperate with all parties to coordinate the support provided and distribute it fairly to those affected. We are looking for ways to enable us to finance the reconstruction of what was destroyed by the earthquake.
I renew our
thanks and gratitude to you and for your assistance in my name and in the name
of the families of the victims in northwest Syria
Yousef
